ok, I solved it myself, I’ll post the solution if anybody out there needs a clue. I think the problem had to do with a bad database query being run. The query was “select * from jobs where project_id = ‘$request->project_id’ and csr_id = ‘$job_id'” on line 131 of DB.php
Here’s the solution:
First, I moved the DB.php file to the root of my server. (Shared hosting) I don’t know how much significance this actually had or not, I doubt it.
Then I just deleted every database entry (about 15) that had a problem. (this took a while).
Then I tried to run a different query (that worked) on the jobs table.
Then I checked the database row that was executing the problematic query (now deleted).
… and got the answer. db_query() was trying to escape some characters in the SQL query. It was trying to escape the square brackets and the apostrophe. The solution was simply to not escape them with the sqlsrv_query() function on line 130.
For the record, the answer to the question I asked about db_query() vs sqlsrv_query() is no one is really sure.
