the first cause of the damage to personal and social relationships in the present world is an individual who, living in sin, permits himself to be treated as an object of absolute power, as a mere instrument of satisfaction and gratification, whose only value is to pay homage to the great powers-that-be. sinful attitudes and actions make men act badly, and the world is then no longer a place where a person is truly free but a scene of enslavement and violence. as a consequence, society is no longer a place where every man is truly free, but a place of slavery. the collapse of morality and the loss of the personal and social sense of values come about only after sin has damaged the fabric of man’s existence; but they are the conditions of sin itself.
