In the 2014 release of AutoCAD, the addition of AutoCAD LT 3D printing tools made it possible to print a virtual drawing using real 3D printers. AutoCAD LT 3D printing tools are currently only supported on Windows.
Available editions
AutoCAD has four editions:
AutoCAD LT: the free version of AutoCAD for home use. It is available for Mac OS X and Windows, and uses a GUI similar to Microsoft Office, with all the same features. The only notable difference is that files may not be edited in AutoCAD LT without a purchase of a Premium edition.
AutoCAD Premier: is designed for manufacturing, professional drafting, architectural design, etc. It is available for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
AutoCAD Architecture: the premier version for architectural design, CAD drafting, engineering, and BIM. AutoCAD Architecture has a web interface to the CAD engine.
AutoCAD Civil 3D: a subset of AutoCAD for civil engineering and architectural design
