i try to keep the article to a minimum, but you need to know something about c++builder. the first week or two is so painful. you’re going to hit some walls of interest and frustration. i got bored of it one day and wanted to get back to delphi and i really don’t miss c++builder. it’s just a lot of work. you have to learn so much in the beginning. it’s not for everyone. i know a lot of developers who say they could never go back to using c++builder after using delphi, lazarus, etc..

you cannot develop a desktop application for windows xp using c++builder xe3. you need to target windows vista or later. you can use delphi or lazarus to develop a windows xp desktop application. the reason is, you need to use an older version of the vcl. this is a problem for me. i need to develop with the same version of the vcl in all my windows applications.

if you are working with a little bit of c++builder, it would be best to learn the basics of the language because there is very little information on the net for beginners. i did learn some interesting and useful things in the first week or two of learning c++builder. for example, i can now see how to call an update method. the basic syntax is update(sender) updatemethodname(myobject, sender). so, it’s the same basic syntax as vcl and delphi. i can call methods on myobject and pass in the sender. i can pass in any type of argument. i can pass in an argument of any type or i can pass in the object itself. i can even pass in the sender to updatemethodname.
