This is the world of the Age of Sigmar.Aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the South China Sea, U.S. Navy pilots have gotten a firsthand lesson in B-1 Lancer and F-35B Joint Strike Fighter capabilities, as well as the Navy’s much-talked-about Carrier Air Wing 3.
On Aug. 2, Vinson left its home port in San Diego with 16 aircraft, operating under the command of Cmdr. Gary Kurtz, a 25-year carrier pilot who has flown five carrier landings aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and has received numerous awards for his work.
For Vinson, the ship’s first combat deployment since 2012, it has been training with U.S. and allied aircraft since its arrival in June.
The ship’s air wing, known as the VFA-105, comprised of the F-35Bs and F-18s, recently conducted the first live-fire exercise with their Chinese counterparts, in which VFA-105 pilots shot down a model AIM-9X Sidewinder missile off the deck of the Liaoning, a Chinese aircraft carrier that recently arrived at the Paracel Islands.
Multiple Chinese jets later made up to 150-foot close-in passes on the deck of the Liaoning, where VFA-105 aircraft stood down the jets.
“Great weather, the range was solid. A perfect day to execute another successful integration of one of our F-35Bs with our USN F-18s,” Capt. Andrew Robert says in an Aug. 7 Navy post.
“When the F-35B launched, I brought the F-18’s head into it to intercept,” said Jonathan Riley, an F-35B pilot aboard Vinson. “We fired a couple of rounds from the Sidewinder, and then it broke off and went home.�

Story
Continuing shortly after the events of Gundam Sentinel, human society in Earth Federation Central City and the Linares Peace Treaty has been impacted by the mysterious and deadly incursion, the Galactic Federation is sending a special operation force to Earth to destroy the monsters and avert world war.
