Prerequisites
To run this tutorial, you need to have Windows Server® 2008 R2 Enterprise or Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter Edition installed. You also need the tools and source code provided by this tutorial.
Configuration
In this tutorial, you’ll create a simple application using.Net Framework 4.0. You need a 64-bit development platform to compile and run this application. The 64-bit version of Visual Studio® 2010 Professional or the 64-bit version of Visual Studio® 2012 or Visual Studio® 2013 are suitable for this tutorial.
This tutorial has been developed to follow the Windows Server 2008 R2 procedure guide. The procedure must be followed to do the tutorial in order to get all the requirements needed to create the application.
Laying the Groundwork
You will need to install the Windows Server Management tools that are included in this kit. The download and extraction of the Windows Server Management tools is described in more detail in the prerequisites above.
In this tutorial, we will use the default tools included with Windows Server 2008 R2 to manage the server. The installation of the tools is described in the prerequisites section.
Note: Please make sure that you are logged in as an administrator.
We won’t be using the Universal Management Console that is used in Windows Server 2008 R2 to manage and configure Windows server roles. We will use the default Windows server management tools that are available from the Windows Server 2008 R2 desktop.
