For this book, you use the Photoshop window shown in Figure 2-2. Notice how you can see and work on the image at the same time. Although not shown here, you can also modify a file by using the HTML image tag editors.
The Photoshop window provides the following tools and options:
* **Blend If/Else**
Creates an effect by comparing two images or sets of pixels. It’s a simple tool that enables you to create a composite image or mask the selected image.
* **Brightness-Contrast**
Adjusts the level of light and dark. This tool enables you to brighten or darken a selection or the entire image.

Includes a host of image-editing tools to clone or copy textures, colors, or smaller images into larger ones.
* **Correct**
Adjusts the color, level of light, and other parameters of the image.

Blending and Image Adjustments
Photoshop has a whole range of blending options that will let you control the opacity of the layers in your image.
There are three types of blending:
Exclusive,
Overlay, and
Screen.
Exclusive blends the two layers but lets any light that is below the bottom layer be visible. In other words it only lets the top layer show through.
The image above shows only the bottom layer is visible.
Overlay works the other way round. The two layers are visible and the bottom layer is visible through the top layer.
Screen blends the two layers but lets any dark shadows or extra details of the bottom layer show through. The image above shows both layers are visible, but the top layer still has some dark areas showing through. This is the most basic blending option.

Adjust the brightness and/or contrast
You can adjust the brightness and contrast of your images in Photoshop just like in your cameras.
In the Adjustments panel on the top left:
There are nine brightness settings, and four contrast settings.
Importance Settings will let you turn on and off the visibility of certain areas of an image while the other settings will make changes to the image.
Below the image on the left is the Histogram panel, where you can choose the look of the image.
You can get fancy with filters and filters.

There are three adjustable filters that are found under the Filter menu:
Posterize
Sepia
Dodge/Burn
They are found in the same places as the ‘Black & White’ filter and ‘Sepia Tone’ filter in the Camera menu.

There are three adjustable tone curves that are found in the same place as the ‘Tone Curve’ adjustment in the Camera menu.
Colorization
There are three adjustable colorization filters found in the same place as the ‘Monochrome’ filter and the ‘Sketch’ filter in the Lens menu.

The present invention relates to a water-based paint which can be used on a wide variety of surfaces with a minimum amount of preparation and special equipment and can be made inexpensively. The paint provides a uniform color coverage which may or may not be visible on a smooth surface, and forms a clear, durable coating which provides good weathering resistance and is free from bleed and filming.
Paints are typically water-based compositions which comprise a binder and a pigment. The binder may be a vinyl polymer or an acrylic emulsion.
The typical paints used today on wood surfaces are of the silicone or epoxy type, and most of them require a primer. The requirement of priming is particularly onerous when a paint is to be used on barn siding or lumber. Silicone or epoxy paints are typically baked on the surface, and if there is any moisture present or any weathering to the surface before they are applied, the paint has a tendency to crack and peel in the hot, humid weather. When this occurs, the barn siding or the wood product must be repainted.
Epoxy paints also typically require the use of a primer and an adhesive. The adhesives and primers required for the epoxy paint composition are, for example, amine adhesives, polyisocyanate adhesives, solvent-based adhesives, and silicone adhesives, which are used to covalently bind the epoxy coating. The most common form of epoxy paints is the “gloss” epoxy.
Paints based on vinyl polymers, including polyvinyl acetate, as their binder, are based on acrylic or acrylic-styrene emulsions. They are manufactured by a solvent evaporation process which takes a significant amount of time. This makes the materials costly, and the materials are not typically used on exterior surfaces of wood because they do not have the weather resistance which is required for exterior surfaces.
The present invention allows acrylic-based paint to be used on a wide variety of surfaces, including the surfaces of wood, metal, and plaster, without the need for a primer.
