The TestHID application was designed to be a small utility that allows users of IR HID devices to test as it is used by HIP. This utility requires the HipHID.dll installed with Hip.

The TestHID application will read and write data using the HID protocol. The device (HID or IR) is not required to be present at all times.

Every incoming command is written to a log file. The application must be run with administrative privileges (NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM) or the command must be run as the C:\Program Files\Hip Developer’s\HIDDeviceTestHID.exe application

All commands (write/read) are sent using the console mode of the application. This can also be used as a client for a system that is not HIP. This is only for testing, not for sending data to or receiving data from other equipment.

All commands are sent through the console window so the current running application will not block the data. If there are no other running console applications, then the application will pause until a key is pressed.

By default the application will use all available HID drivers. To use a single driver, edit the config file to specify the name of the device driver to be used. To use multiple drivers, pass in the config file a name for each driver (separated by a space).

The following command parameters are available for use in the config file:

ipaddress:IP Address of the console to be used. Default to 127.0.0.1

port:Port to be used. Default to 5555

logfile:Path and filename of the log file. If the logfile does not exist, the application will create it. A path of C:\log.txt is provided as an example. The file will be created with permissions of 700

timeout:Milliseconds to wait after receiving a response from the console

The config file can be specified by specifying the full path to the config file in the console or as a command line argument.

Examples:

hip con /ip:127.0.0.1 /port:5555 /logfile:C:\log.txt

For example, the following command opens up a console and sends the first command in the config file.

Config file is specified by a fully qualified path to the config file.

The path can be a full path (C:\log.txt), a file name of the config file (config.txt), or a file name of the config file if a path is not specified (C:\log.txt).

‘*’ means that all available drivers are to be used, where the drivers are listed in the config file.

Example:

hip con *

The following command will only open a console using the IR/HID driver and will display the available serial ports.
