Do you ever have some pictures that your camera won’t open? I know, I know, “I wasn’t ready”, but in the time it takes me to make the review, make a good edit of my photos and prepare them for printing, all my computer can say is “no, sorry”.
This is the conundrum I am facing with Lightroom. It opens RAW files from cameras (even the iPhone’s RAW) and can read them. It can also open JPEGs, but it can’t open them until I click on it. Another way to call this is that Lightroom can open RAW images and save them as JPEG’s (what makes it totally fail in the image viewing part).
Enough’s enough, time for a change. As much as I am a lazier photographer, I still like to be able to leave a copy of the original RAW file. Especially when it’s the full RAW file from the camera, I need that so I can copy all the details into my favourite editing software.
For better or worse, people are obsessed with Photoshop. You’ll get asked a hundred times by your friends and family members what you use it for. People who have never worked at a design agency will ask you questions during interviews about whether you know it, if artists and designers use it, and if they can get jobs if they learn it. Kids love it, and older people will ask you when they’re browsing the photo section of a department store whether they should buy a copy.

In addition, Photoshop also has an option to create ACES (Adobe Color Encoding Specification) that will enable you to save the colors in its industry standard output. In other words, ACES makes the image process more accurate and easier to understand.
