Let’s consider this scenario:
In CRM you have an entity and you have to incrementally number that entity.
Let’s say the entity name is “xyz” (in the picture), but the incremental number is not yet available.
Let’s also say that “xyz” has a number field which is hidden (we will see how to make it visible later).
What we will do is create a Macro on that entity “xyz”.
In this Macro, we will increment the number of “xyz” entity using the context of another entity named “First Name of the Entity” (in the picture First Name of the Entity is Jones)
STEP 1
Add a Macro to “xyz” entity.
In the Macro, you will notice the Macro Context.
In this Macro, we will use the context of First Name of the Entity.
The First Name of the Entity will give us a value which we can increment.
STEP 2
Declare a macro variable in the Macro.
In this Macro, we will declare a macro variable named $Counter, which will contain the incremental number.
First Name of the Entity [First Name of the Entity]
STEP 3
Get the value of First Name of the Entity.
If you recall the screenshot, we already have a field named First Name of the Entity in the CRM form.
So let’s use the values from that field.
NOTE: As of CRM 4.0, this is the only field that increments.
So you can have this number in any field.
STEP 4
If you review the values in the macro variable ($Counter), you will notice that the values are in some weird format.
Let’s see what we will do now:
STEP 5
In this line we will parse the value of the macro variable and we will format it to have a number format.
Here is a picture for the above line of code.
Let’s use some spaces to increase the readability.
VALUE OF $Counter = {0}
{0} – this is the actual value of $Counter and 0 – the value will be of “00”.
STEP 6
In the next line of code we will increment the value of the $Counter by 1.
