Sparrow kicks the shit out of other pirates, including a bunch of rival crews and his own crew of men who’ve fallen under his spell – a funny twist since the game introduced a new female Assassin’s Creed character who was turned into a crew member as well. If you watch the trailer, he lures other captains with a nearby treasure that’s actually a trap, then sails away while you pillage their ships. He also steals the hand of the brigand who once blinded Sparrow, then uses it to kidnap a young maiden.
Remember the day I announced that Assassin’s Creed III was coming to PC? Remember how annoyed I was with the game’s technical problems? Well, Black Flag looks to be the real deal. I played over half an hour and the online player base seems strong and active, but I don’t have Black Flag yet so I can’t say for sure.
Among the surprises at E3 2012 was Assassin’s Creed III for Xbox 360. It was only available to “people who had a subscription to Xbox LIVE.” For $15 a month, you could get the game! (It was $35 a year, but Xbox Live Arcade players were eligible for the early purchase.)
Black Flag is the most complete version of the game – it does away with the limitations of a console port and most of the problems that plagued the original release. Sure, you’re limited to a boat that doesn’t leave a very large area, but it’s a game you can play. The control scheme hasn’t been overly simplified, either. Combat now feels incredibly fluid. Each of the four main weapons – saber, musket, pistol, and crossbow – feels distinct, and each of the four main abilities – shadow, eagle, sabotage, and investigation – adds a distinct feel to the game. It’s easy to see some of the elements of the last game, but Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has the freedom to develop those ideas further.
