The push-pull contactor moves between an open and closed position upon rotation of the contactor. In the open position, the electrical contacts are in electrical communication with an electrical device to be controlled and in the closed position, the electrical contacts are isolated from the electrical device.
Conventional connectors of this type have at least two disadvantages. First, the contactor has no inherent mechanism to indicate whether the contactor is in the open or closed position. Thus, for example, in the open position, the contactor may be very close to the electrical device thereby increasing the possibility of electrical arcing. Second, conventional connectors are relatively complicated and expensive to manufacture. In particular, to provide electrical communication between the cable and the electrical device, the push-pull contactor must include numerous electrical connections and associated components.
