next, select the ‘type of package’ you wish to create, and the ‘mode of compression’ you wish to use for the archive. you may choose to use ppm (point per model) in which case each model will consume a.cpk file of its own, or you may use pex (point per entity) in which the game software itself will be the central archival unit. ppm is generally recommended as it is less prone to issues of data fragmentation over time, but you can use pex if you wish, and you can also choose to make use of both. there are also three additional options:

keep that merged folder selected, on the left hand side of the ‘right hand’ window you should have a ‘my computer’ entry; make a note of that location so you can return to it later – we’ll need this later on for ‘un-packing’. now right-click on the merged folder and select ‘move to’ – this will take you to an interface where you can ‘export’ files to any of the following locations you have selected in the past:

receiving pc – on selecting that, you will now be able to choose a ‘folder’ (remember that previously selected one?) that may contain the files you wish to ‘pack’ into this archive.
current working directory – this is the environment that the files exist in at the moment you created the pack – this is useful when you want to take files from another projects folder structure.
current selected folder – this is also useful when you’re not sure where files you want to include (and can be useful for debugging software problems) – the files may have been added to the archive when you began packing – and/or this can also be used to move multiple files into one folder at the same time.

the only disadvantage of this method is that there will be a folder with the full name of your pack next to each dlc it contains. if you only pack up a certain area of the game, like say only skins, this won’t be a problem, but you should still create a folder for the dlc because its better to have it separated in a folder. also, you can’t completely control what folders will be included in the dlc, so some folders might make it in, while others might not.
in order to setup an asset pack, you must first create a mcmeta or png file for every image, texture, sound, and block that is to be used. you do this simply by saving any image, texture, or block into a file and then creating a path to that file in the mcmeta file. the mcmeta file is technically a binary file that allows for all sorts of extra information to be inserted into the file. if you read the file as a text document, you will see the various [key=value] tags. the key of a tag is written in a certain pattern and will allow you to update the mcmeta file with new texture, block, sound, etc. you will see this in the tutorial below.
to start, you need to add your original texture, block, or sound file to a folder called assets. if you go to windows explorer, go to file–>new–>folder–>type:assets. this will create a new folder inside your resource pack folder. you don’t need to move the original file to this new folder, as its icon will show up in this location. inside the new folder, you need to create 3 new files: pack.mcmeta, pack.png, and config.xml. you need to add the original file to all of these files. you can do that like this:
