Lightroom has equally become my favorite image editing application, and it’s been the best part of a better equation across the board that Adobe has made. Adobe’s mantra of melding traditional cataloging stuff with the designing of a workflow makes me as excited as it does other designers.
Am I happy with it? Yes, but there’s a good amount of work still to be done in order to get the app perfect. But again, it a familiar friend. I just need to be told the recommended and the not-so-recommended ways it can use up my CPU.

This enormous effort brings two major benefits to the platform: improving performance and allowing the use of the web platform for anything, even the design and creation of wickedly advanced visuals. Going forward, these changes are what will help web developers build new, powerful tools and visualizations for the web.

How did the Photoshop web prototype get started?
The web prototype to reimagine Photoshop started about two years ago. We noticed that in Internet Explorer 11, Photoshop performance was horrendous so we set out to develop an alternative. What we ended up with was a new version of Photoshop, Emscripten-based, that we shipped in November 2017 as the first Adobe Creative Cloud Windows App.

In that first release, we created a basic canvas and basic zoom and pan functionality. Over the past year, we brought the prototype to a much higher quality, added some simple filters, and in January 2019, we ended up shipping a new Photoshop API that allows third-party developers to build web applications with Photoshop libraries and tools.
