We have a code generator that is used to generate some classes for us. These classes are made to be able to be translated to a database table. We would like to be able to have different types of data sources that we could plug in for data, but we would like to have a form that is able to display that data in different ways (one dimensional or two dimensional). However, we want to keep it as simple as possible so that we don’t end up having too many different forms (makes testing so much harder). The catch is that if we had a user control, it would need to be able to have more than just one user control in a page, but we’d have to figure out a way to access the data being passed to the user control so it could access the data within it.
Any advice would be great.

Yes, you can do this with a Composite Control. You can expose it as a web service to the front end, then consume the data as needed. If you used a Repeater control, you could have just one Type of data element. It would be problematic since your model would be now tethered to the Source, not the Model.
If you embed the control inside a flow panel, you can also expose a WebMethod within the embedded control that would make the exposed web service call (source control) available. In a way, this would give you a reusable Type class.
If that doesn’t sound like a good fit, you’d probably want to look at this question: How can I use a different data source to a grid or listview?. I think it will help you work with the form a bit more efficiently.
