There are some game improvements that would not just make gameplay easier, but make the game more approachable, and while Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII had many interesting gameplay improvements and features, the improvements in Final Fantasy VII – Advent Children would stand to make the game easier for new players, without removing much of the game’s depth, or changing the gameplay experience for those players more familiar with the series. One of the ways to do this would be the inclusion of a Tutorial section, which would show new players the basics of the game’s controls, right from the beginning. And the Tutorial section of this game is comprehensive, introducing new players in a way that is very easy to follow, and without explaining any of the more advanced terminology used in the game. And since this game is set before Final Fantasy VII, it is a bit easier to be introduced to, as the changes in the game play would be more gradual. Another thing this game could offer is a pause system, in the same manner as FFXIII. This would allow more interaction with other players, as well as a more enjoyable way of sharing information between yourself and other players. Finally, the game would benefit from the inclusion of an anti-cheating system.

All in all, Final Fantasy VII – Advent Children is a very good game for beginners who are new to the Final Fantasy franchise, while boasting deeper gameplay for more experienced players as well. Highly recommended to players of the original Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy VII – Advent Children was the first Final Fantasy game to appear on the PlayStation 2. It was also released in Japan in March 2000, in Europe in August 2000 and in North America on November 1, 2000. It was first shown in Los Angeles at the Electronic Entertainment Expo on May 7, 2000, and was released in Japan the following month. It follows up directly on the ending of the original Final Fantasy VII. Characters in the Advent Children PSP spin-off are post-credits, and are featured in the scenes that take place afterwards.
