JOCL is a lightweight Java library that provides bindings for OpenCL, a framework used for writing applications that can be executed on different platforms.
JOCL provides an easy to implement component very similar to the original OpenCL API and interprets the functions as static methods.

JOCL [2022]

JOCL is a simple Java API for the OpenCL 1.2 platform. JOCL currently supports the OpenCL 1.2 and CUDA APIs. The library is able to run OpenCL on multiple platforms including Microsoft Windows and Linux without requiring a device driver. Platform and processor support is determined at runtime. JOCL provides an easy to use, yet full featured API that wraps the OpenCL API.
JOCL CUDA Compatibility:
The JOCL has been ported to support the CUDA architecture version 2.x (CUDA 2.x). The porting of the JOCL to CUDA allowed the usage of both CPU and GPU resources.
Note that the compatibility between the version 2.x of CUDA and OpenCL is not fully compatible, especially in version 2.x of CUDA.
About the CUDA 2.x, NVIDIA announced the end of the official support of CUDA v2.x and developed a series of drivers including CUDA v3.1, v3.2, CUDA toolkit v3.0, CUDA v3.5, CUDA v3.6, CUDA toolkit v3.5, CUDA toolkit v3.6. Thus, in CUDA v3.x there is no longer any official support for CUDA v2.x.
Installation of the JOCL can be either by downloading the.jar file from the web or by downloading the jar file from the web and then unzipping it.
In order to use the JOCL 1.3 library, at least a copy of opencl-1.2.jar and jocl-2.2.2.jar will need to be installed.

INSTALL

To run the example programs, a copy of the JOCL 1.3 library along with its.jar and.JAR (when installed in a different location than the JOCL directory) files, a CL-Viz workstation, or the JOCL library alone, are required.

The JOCL library for OpenCL provides a Java-like interface for OpenCL. JOCL can be used to write OpenCL applications. It is entirely written in Java, and it avoids the use of native code by using JNI.
It has been successfully implemented to work on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris.
JOCL includes the following functionalities:
* High Level OpenCL
* Binding to most OpenCL libraries, including OpenCL 1.2 and older versions.
* OpenCL Profiling Tools
* An OpenCL Timing Kernel
* An OpenCL C-like API
* A dynamic tracing framework
* OpenCL bindings for multiple platforms
* DeviceQuery extension for Heterogeneous OpenCL
* Application binary interface (ABI) compatibility checking
* An automatic OpenCL context creation class for automatic creation of new CL contexts
* The OpenCL C runtime is implemented as a Service Provider Interface (SPI) for JVM
* A simple helper class for writing OpenCL applications
* Readme.html for installation and usage instructions
* An OpenCL importer to import the OpenCL kernels and programs into JOCL

KBC. It’s only the wrapper classes (or adapters) for the original C API, it’s not a new or improved version of the API. It’s exactly the same, but, as far as I understand, it works on all operating systems and does a more or less fine job. So I’d say it’s something which is definitely worth to use.

From my experience, the C API is pretty easy to use and perfectly suitable for everyone, even if they don’t want to know too much about OpenCL and its API.

So, are you interested in writing OpenCL applications with JOCL? I would recommend you to try it and see if it suits you and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Don’t know if I should post here – but didn’t know where to post it to really be honest. I would like to start writing some code for OpenCL but was wondering if there is a place to write sample code and examples and have them explained to me. I am not that good with OpenCL and do not really know where to start so was wondering if anyone could help me?

JOCL is a Java Library for OpenCL-1.1. The OpenCL-1.1 specification is used to provide portable (platform independent) binding to the OpenCL API. JOCL was originally developed for the GPU and mainly for NVIDIA GPUs but is also applicable to other GPUs with OpenCL 1.1.
JOCL’s primary use is to benefit from OpenCL’s code portability. This makes it possible to write applications in C/C++ and Java with OpenCL APIs without having to write the C/C++-and-OpenCL-specific code manually. This is made possible by utilizing the OpenGL (OpenGL-ES for mobile devices) or JOGL API’s respective bindings. JOCL heavily uses the OpenGL bindings for OpenCL and therefore you need OpenGL version 3.0 for JOCL to compile successfully.
JOCL uses OpenGL’s GLSL shader language for high performance OpenCL development. JOCL has a special GLSL parsing engine that helps to reduce the effort of OpenCL developers to write the GLSL source code manually. The GLSL parser is mainly used to generate a high level Java source code version of the original OpenCL-C code. This Java version is then compiled to native code with the JOCL compiler. This provides a high level language that is easy to use for programming.
JOCL provides a collection of classes that provide a similar interface as the original OpenCL API with simple methods that make use of JOCL’s special features. All of JOCL’s classes follow the same pattern of having a ClMethod wrapper class that provides a specific function with parameters, a ClArgument wrapper class that provides a value to be used inside the ClMethod wrapper class and a ClContext wrapper class that allows you to manage a global context of all OpenCL commands.
These classes wrap the OpenCL-1.1 API and have a public void run(OpenCL.CommandQueue queue, ClArgument… args) method that runs the OpenCL-1.1 function. Also, JOCL provides a static ClMethod class to simplify creating new ClMethod wrapper classes. So, to create a new ClMethod class, you only need to create a ClMethod class with a special ClMethod.CL_IMPL. This can then be used to simplify creating new ClMethod wrapper classes. What’s New In JOCL?

JOCL is a Java binding for OpenCL. It provides a set of static methods for writing OpenCL kernels in Java.
JOCL is implemented as a replacement for the native OpenCL Java Native Interface (JNI).
JOCL can be used for running OpenCL kernels in a Java application.
With JOCL, it is possible to port OpenCL 1.2+ kernels to Java.
The best approach to port kernels to JOCL is to port the kernel source to Java first, and then implement the Java bindings.
JOCL provides a class hierarchy with classes that represent the functionality of OpenCL types and offers standard Java methods for working with theses types.
JOCL API:
JOCL is a C++ wrapper around the OpenCL 1.2 API.
According to the OpenCL API version 1.2, the Java binding API provides a simple Java environment for writing OpenCL kernels.
Getting Started:
JOCL has been tested with the OpenCL 1.2 API on the PC/Intel and the PC/AMD platforms.
JOCL will work with any OpenCL compatible platform as long as OpenCL is available.
To use JOCL, the Java “opencl” package must be available, which is standard on most platforms.
You can also download the OpenCL SDK from
Downloading JOCL:

The JOCL program demonstrates how to create and execute an OpenCL function
in a Java application.
This version only runs kernel. The simplified version explained here can be used to
execute kernel, compute grids etc.
JOCL can also be used to run OpenCL
programs written in other languages such as C or C++.
JOCL includes a class hierarchy representing the functionality of OpenCL types.
For example, it contains a Matrix class, a vector class and a kernel class.
In the kernel source code, the kernel is implemented as a simple static method.
When you compile the JOCL program, you will get an jar file jocl.jar.
This file is necessary because OpenCL is platform dependent.
It can be used with any OpenCL compatible platform.
In this demonstration, we use an On-Line Engineering (OPE) board to run the OpenCL
