I am currently in the process of designing the version control system for our organization. At the moment, we are using BitKeeper, where we have folders for each company we are working with, let’s say CompanyA, and within this folder, we keep all the source code from that company.
Does this mean that we can’t have companies working on the same project simultaneously? Let’s say, CompanyA is working on project A, and CompanyB is working on Project B, and we keep version control all the way from CompanyA to CompanyB, with each company in their own folder. Will this create some kind of problem? If so, how can we address this problem? I’ve thought about using Git as the version control system, but I don’t want to lose the benefits that BitKeeper provides. If you could please explain this, I’d be grateful.

Git and Mercurial have the same versioning model of forking, merging and cherry-picking.
I would suggest using them both.
BitKeeper is pretty straightforward – you have a centralized repository and you keep the source code in folders. BitKeeper creates and deletes these folders as you create and delete your files.
