gordons daughter, barbara, went on to star in her own title, and eventually assume the batgirl mantle herself. but it took until’s current time for her father to reveal an interest in her. after batman and robin married, the police chiefs daughter moved into the next phase of her life by moving on from the farce of her marriages to batman. this is where things get a bit murky. years of hiding at the batcave, and living the secret lives of bruce wayne and the millionaire playboy have lead to a shattering of barbara’s entire life. although she married bruce and became his trophy wife, she developed a psychological disconnect with the new role. as she told her father, ‘if i’m not dead, i’m living. i’m not pretending to be someone else; i just don’t care what others think. i’m who i am.’.

this concept of being yourself and letting everyone know how you truly feel has been integrated into the bat family for decades, from the currently-running comics through the batwoman tv series. maybe a bit on the nose, but that was also the general direction barbara’s life was going. she was the new babs, who would not be denied her freedom. enter dick grayson, the brand new robin. who was not only a companion piece to bruce, but also had complete access to her fathers’ part of wayne manor. thus robin developed a different kind of bond with his new mother, barbara. ultimately, the marriage broke up, partly due to the fact that dick had developed an interest in barbara. after that, batman and robin found themselves living on the same lot for a while. finally they were able to get their divorced, which set the stage for their marriage. as it turns out, the parents of babs and russ are now married, to further enhance the gotham family.

the producers also wrote batman out of the series at the end of the episode by sending bruce and dick to lexcorp city to fight the villains, and having them teleport the city back to the island, after which the series switched to the us on abc. the producers also wrote superman out of the series by using him as a serial killer to kill lexcorp city’s mayor (even setting batman and wonder woman up for a suicide mission by having the mayor publicly drug both heroes to lighten their load so they could escape).
the series had reached it’s demise, but that didnt stop the producers from firing joker at the beginning of the next episode, with a final musical montage of the joker’s greatest hits and a warning to batman that gotham city would now be overseen by lexcorp. the switch to abc gave the producers (including the late harry sher, an executive producer of batman and superman) a chance to bring over-the-top hollywood treatment to the series. batman fans werent happy at all.
batman had also revealed his purpose here, ‘it will be of the greatest benefit to you, and indeed all the colonies, if the government should agree to the proposition’. to aid batman he was appointed a special police constable, and appointed under royal warrant; the colony was reminded that these were british emigrants, and not subjects of the crown. batman was later issued with a new blue uniform, with a fixed belt and new equipment. the first issue of the batman journal appeared in december. for the next fortnight batman regularly issued his diary account, and his autobiography of his exploring and exploiting period, in highly condensed form and with only a few annotations, including dates and places, and indication of his daily routine. the narrative is mainly factual, though batman’s appraisals of the natives and his plans for the future are frequent and varied. batman also used the journal to express his growing doubts, specifically as to the feasibility of his plans, and was to repeat this expression of doubt in future years. in addition to the journal batman wrote an essay of four pages on the aboriginal origins of ‘aborigines in australia’. this work, anonymous and unpublished until now, contains several elements of suggestion common with the prose fiction, although the essay is unpublished as such..
