Understanding layers
There’s a big difference between using your camera to take a picture and then knowing how to manipulate the picture after you’ve taken it, versus using Photoshop to take a picture and then putting it together after you’ve taken it.
A picture is not just a picture. It has many layers to it, each of which can have different image properties. In Photoshop, you start by opening a document. Then you begin to add layers by either drawing in them from scratch or inserting and positioning them as images. Adding a layer is as simple as pressing Command/Ctrl+L (Mac) or choosing Layer⇒New Layer (Windows). Now you can start editing.
You’ll notice that when you create layers, you can choose either to make the layer editable or to make it locked. To make an editable layer, you can change its color, zoom into it, or manipulate it using the drawing tools. To make a locked layer, on the other hand, you can’t add or subtract objects, and you can’t edit it. In other words, make sure that you save, but you don’t edit that layer.
Layers also have blending modes. Blending modes are used to combine images in Photoshop (and other image editing programs). You have lots of blending modes — Multiply, Screen, Hard Light, Soft Light, Color, and others. If you layer two images together and use a different blending mode, you can see the effect of the blending mode on the two layers.

Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as Fifa president for another two four-year terms.
