Was Angola really celebrating, on 27 May 1974, the 25th anniversary of its independence? For the same date in 1974, Colombia celebrates the 200^th anniversary of Colombia’s first national congress, after two centuries of Spanish domination. Relatively speaking, the Congresso Nacional do MPLA em 3 de julho de 1973 in Luanda lasted a mere three days, of which it is estimated that most of the 1,200 participants took part only on the final day, at which the party leadership gave its formal blessing to the new “Provisional Provisional Government of Angola” which was proclaimed during the congress. Nevertheless, the Precisao de Resistência. has no current correspondent in Angos press and few in its ranks today are pro-regime. Rather they are opponents of the regime and members of different political parties. They argue that for a true and lawful revolution to take place, it needs to be fought. The Punguira massacre has become the sticking-point that prompted high levels of investigation, within the country, in many regions and even in Angola itself.
The government of Angola was in charge of the investigation, and it quickly opened several criminal investigations, most notably in the cities of Gao and Kuito. The Punguira massacre became the top priority. The Investigacao de Massacres Policiais das Forças Armadas, (Military Police Investigation of the Policia das Forças Armadas), MPIAF (Army Police Investigation), although still ongoing, had come up with the most exculpante (invective). It is also argued to be racist and even anti-communista.
