She has collected together these stories, then, to present them to those strangers who also happen to be her contemporaries, the scholars of this period who wrote about narratives of travel to the West. Kasasol Ambia is a briny sea of stories that sing of the spaces of the imagination, which all of us traverse.
For it is from the depths of these stories that we seek insight into the histories of South Asian and Aboriginal people colonised by the British Empire. Kasasol Ambia is a work of the imagination, not of the history of interpretations of the forms that stories take. When Rezaulla began collecting these stories, she did so for reasons not yet realised. She hoped to find a reminder of the uncanny spaces of the imagination that she was travelling through. Now, we can read the stories as part of a rich history. We can read Kasasol Ambia not only for its relevance to our lives, but also for its promise of new spaces of knowing.
